Dr. Beatty Appointed to Associate Vice President - Academic Affairs Operations

Late this summer, Dr. Beatty was appointed to an administrative position on campus: Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs Operations.

This transition means that Dr. Beatty will no longer be a teaching faculty member in ITEC. His work will be in applying the instructional systems design theory and practices throughout the Academic Affairs units on campus (essentially the 80% of the university directly associated with teaching and learning). He will be paying particular attention to issues of technology use and coordinating the efforts of Academic Technology across the campus.

Dr. Beatty will still be involved in the ITEC program in some capacity, perhaps teaching a class here and there (as a volunteer, now) and working with students on projects associated with technology use on campus. He will certainly be looking for ITEC interns to help with ITEC-related campus projects.
As an ITEC alum, he will remain connected to the program and its students and graduates through the ISAN group on LinkedIn, too.

The ITEC program expects to conduct a national search for a replacement faculty during the 2012-2013 school year.

ITEC and DAIS Departments to form new unit: ELSIT

The Instructional Technologies Department is undergoing a major administrative change beginning this Fall (2012).

We are undergoing a bit of reorganization, which will change the administrative alignment of ITEC. The ITEC (Instructional Technologies) and DAIS (Administration and Interdisciplinary Studies) departments of the Graduate College of Education have decided to join together to form a new unit called "Equity, Leadership Studies, and Instructional Technologies (ELSIT)."

This decision is the culmination of more than a semester of careful discussion and planning of the faculties of both departments over the past academic year.  It is our belief that there are important strategic reasons to come together to shape a new unit. We have shared synergies that we can build upon together in our two units to shape an important future for the Graduate College and the University. Furthermore, we believe that we are stronger if we come together than if we remain separate in the current climate of budgetary cutbacks and reorganization.

You may notice that the ITEC website now refers to the ITEC Program rather that the Department of Instructional Technologies. Students will find that this change may require a few different names on forms, but the change does not lead directly to changes in the ITEC faculty and curriculum. Dr. David Hemphill, the current chair of DAIS, will be the first chair of the new unit.

ITEC Open House 2012

Hello all, it's that time of year again... time for our annual Fall Open House and Welcome to New Students.

All ITEC students (especially new ones) are invited to the Open House on Thursday, August 23rd, from 6:00-8:00 PM in BH 168 (across the hall from the ITEC office). We will discuss the ITEC program, courses and introduce faculty. New students will have the chance to meet each other and ask/answer questions about their studies. Several ITEC alumni will be present to describe their experience in the program and working in the field after finishing.

Please join us if you can. If you plan to attend, please call (or email) the ITEC office to let us know how many people will be attending with you. (We will have light refreshments, too.)

Thanks - we hope to see you on August 23rd.
